Additional Info: Jonathan Phillips is a widely experienced soloist, a graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music where he studied with Sulamita Aronovsky, and as postgraduate with Alexander Kelly in London. Recital and Concerto debuts at the Queen Elizabeth Hall and Purcell room on London's South Bank were followed by concerts at many of the UK's most prestigious vnues, including the Fairfield Halls, St.Martin-in-the-Fields and the Royal Exchange Theatre Manchester. During this period, Jonathan was also appointed at the age of 22 as a full time member of the Music Department at Chethams School in Manchester.

Jonathan won the National Youth Orchestra of Wales Soloist award in 1986, and gave five performances of Rachmaninov's Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini, under Arthur Davison which was televised and broadcast live on BBC TV and Radio. The tour included performances at St David's Hall Cardiff, the Brangwn Hall Swansea and the Royal National Eisteddfodd.

Jonathan's Concerto experience is considerable, with over 100 performances including many major concertos by Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky, Chopin and Schumann. Jonathan has worked with conductors including Tamas Vasary, Ronald Corp and Paul Watkins. Indeed it was while working with the Bournemoth Sinfonietta on Martinu's Sinfonietta di Giocosa that Mr Vasary recommended Jonathan to take part in the ninth international Tchaikovsky competition in Moscow.Since then, Jonathan has broadcast for the BBC, Russian and Italian TV and radio and given recitals all over the UK Europe and former Soviet Union. Jonathan gave a recital at St John's Smith Square at three days notice, when a distinguished russian virtuoso was indisposed, the programme included Liszt's B minor sonata. Additionally, Jonathan has worked as an accompanist with singers including Jane Eaglen, Lesley Garrett, Chris Ventris, Linda Kitchen, David Barrell to name only a few.

Jonathan took a break from performing from 1998 to persue interests outside music, which have included obtaining a B.A Hons degree in Philosophy from London University (2:1). Spending time bringing up a young family, and investing time in developing his already considerable repetoire. In 2003 Jonathan began accepting professional engagements, and resumed performing by playing the Rachmaninoff 3rd Concerto in London conducted by Paul Watkins. The concert attracted a lot of media attention, and Jonathan was interviewed and performed live on the Radio Four's Today programme, following a full page feature article in the Guardian Arts Section about the concert. Last season sew Jonathan performing in Cambridge, Cheltenham, and giving the Opening concert of the 2004 Chipping Camden Music Festival which was recorded, and also selected as one of the Classical "Pick of the Week" concerts in The Guardian.

Jonathan has always improvised, and is, after receiving a lot of encouragement to do so, finally (and currently)working on a project to record some of these. Examples will appear as Audio files on this site, hopefully soon!
